To do for next time: PoMo

1. Print out a copy of the syllabus and the schedule from snappyprof.com (go to http://www.snappyprof.com, click on the student tab at the left, then click on the links for the schedule and syllabus for A&D 384).

2. READ the syllabus and the schedule. Pay particular attention to the statement about plagiarism and the disclaimer about course content. If you have any questions or concerns about anything you see in the syllabus or schedule you should email me, meet me during office hours or ask during the next class period.

3. Buy your books, if you haven't already. These are listed on the syllabus. Everyone needs three books for this class. Due to the fire in Von's I have placed orders at the University book store and Follett's. It is your responsibility to get the books, or find a classmate to share with. Not having bought the book is not a valid excuse for not doing the assignments.

Assignment for 384 Postmodernism

DUE Tuesday, January 17. NOTE WE WILL NOT HAVE CLASS ON THURSDAY January 12-- you should use that time to work on the assignment. Go to the Purdue Galleries exhibition reCON(TEXT): Postmodern Art from the Wright State University Permanent Collection in the STEWART CENTER gallery (it needs to be THIS SHOW).

Choose a work you immediately "like" or appreciate as "art" and a work you immediately "dislike" or don't appreciate as "art"

Write a 2-3 page essay describing these two works and explaining why you feel about them the way you do. This essay must be typed, double-spaced. I am serious about the minimum length of two pages; you will fail the assignment if it is not that long.

Your writing "counts" so I expect it to be well written, although you are welcome to speak in an informal voice in your paper.

Do NOT DO RESEARCH on the work at this point (that may come later, but right now I ONLY WANT your careful description and your reaction). Tell me what it is made of and what it looks like as if I am blind. Tell me what you think about it and/or what you think it means and why. Be as descriptive as possible. Oh, and make sure to tell me the artist and title of the work.
