Note: Double dippers (people enrolled in TWO of my classes, see me because we might need to modify your project as a result).
Note: Students registered as GRADS in this class and HONORS students have different/modified project requirements. SEE ME.
PROJECT REQUIREMENTS:
You have two "basic" options for a course project
Either way, your project for this class derives from reading The Interventionists: User's Manual the Creative Disruption of Everyday Life AND a creative component. You also may use additional research (use the reserve reading at Hick's for this class as a starting point) if you wish. Any additional research MUST be properly cited (full bibliographic information or full URL). Any paraphrases or quotes from The Interventionists MUST be cited (for The Interventionists, you may use the abbreviation UM, p. X).

WORKSHOP OPTION
Includes participation in SPURSE workshop and/or TEMPORARY SERVICES workshop.
If you choose the workshop option, your project paper will focus primarily on your production as a result of the workshop(s) you attend, a consideration of the significance of collaboration within those workshops, and a consideration of how the workshop interacts with the issues covered in the text The Interventionists. Because of the amount of time invested in the actual workshops, the amount of outside research and the length of the final paper will be reduced. You must, however, provide visual documentation of your workshop experience(s) in conjunction with your paper.
Required elements of your paper:
minimum length: 5 pages + notes and bibliography (if applicable)
required reading assoc. w/this paper: The Interventionists. The Interventionists must be consulted, discussed and cited in your final paper. Any other reading assignments or links utilized must be cited in paper.
note: this paper is to take the form of a standard research paper, even though it documents personal experience. Endnotes or footnotes and bibliography (if included) must be "finished" and professional in appearance. The writing in the paper should be "finished" and professional (this means proofread or die!!!) It must be in ESSAY form with standard margins (1 inch on all sides) and a non-gigantic typeface. The quality of your writing counts... meaning it should be well organized, flow smoothly, demonstrate critical thinking, be free of grammatical errors, and use proper citation methods. Be VERY CAREFUL with quotes. Quotes imply that you do not understand the material well enough to put it in your own words. If you choose to quote, it is imperative that you "interpret" that quote for me. Tell me what it means and why you chose to quote it.
PROCRASTINATOR'S SUGGESTED DRAFT DEADLINE (so I can give you feedback and you can revise).
One week after you have completed your workshop experience.
ABSOLUTE DEADLINE: APRIL 25

NON-WORKSHOP OPTION
THE NON-WORKSHOP PROJECT HAS FOUR PARTS, to correspond to each of the four sections in The Interventionists. For each section, you will do the following.
1. Read the essays in that entire section. Think creatively about each of the artists discussed. Do this step first, so you have some time for ideas to percolate.
2. Write a brief summary of the artists' projects in that section (Give some specific examples, being careful to paraphrase correctly... see plaigiarism warning below) (suggested length: 3/4 of a page)
3. Explain how the work of one or more of these artists intrigues you and/or is useful and/or may be applied to your studio discipline, interests or personal life (suggested length 1/2 page)
4. Create an "application" from your area/discipline etc. that you would propose to go with the creative disruptions in that section of The Interventionists. This will likely be a sketch, or a written "plan of action" (this will be a visual). You might also consider class lectures and/or reserve readings as you do this.
5. Explain how your "application" was inspired by the essay, and what it would achieve for you in your career goals. (suggested length 3/4 of a page)
Total written length for each portion of the project: 2 pages minimum + something visual. (See the grid handout for explanation of writing expectations associated with this "minimum" length). See me if you need help conceptualizing these projects.
PROCRASTINATOR'S SUGGESTED DEADLINES (also for people who want feedback and a chance to revise their work before the absolute deadline). Note: you can always, always turn things in earlier and get feedback. If you want my feedback on these, however, you should not wait past these dates, because I may not be able to get the work BACK to you so you can make revisions if you wait any longer than this.

Part II. Reclaim the Streets -- March 2
Part III. The Experimental University -- April 6
