COURSE TEXT:
Snyder, Northern Renaissance Art.

OBJECTIVES:
This course aims to introduce the monuments and masterpieces of Northern Renaissance (c. 1300-1600). It is also designed to explore the relationship between art history and history, between art objects and key episodes in political, social, and intellectual history. While the contributions of artists such as Van Eyck, Grünewald, Dürer and Bosch will be discussed in detail, lesser known artists and traditions will also be introduced.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS

  • Reading Assignments/Questions: 20%
  • Midterm: 20%
  • Project (to be chosen in consultation with the instructor): 30%
  • Final: 30% ***The Final Exam will NOT be cumulative.***

TEST FORMAT, etc:

  • There will be a variety of questions on the tests, including matching, short answer, multiple choice, compare and contrast etc. I will always make you aware of exactly how the test is constructed beforehand.
  • Make-up examinations will be given only in emergency situations and with the proper written documentation of the problem
